Elkford
Elkford prides itself on being "The Wilderness Capital of BC". Situated in the Rocky Mountains of southeastern British Columbia, this picturesque community is surrounded by lush, forested slopes, spectacular alpine-meadows and clear glacier fed lakes and streams. In such a setting, it is no wonder a myriad of sportsmen have visited the area for over a hundred years for outstanding hunting and fishing opportunities. The same wildlife that attracts hunters has also begun to attract tourists with cameras, binoculars and sketchpads to view animals in their natural habitat.
Mining : There are five coal producing mines in operation in the Southeastern corner of BC all operated by Elk Valley Coal Corporation. In the immediate vicinity of Elkford are two mines - the Fording River Operations & Greenhills Operations. A third mine, Line Creek Operations is situated mid-way between Elkford and Sparwood.
